Rough is cheaper in the middle, tighter at the top
Miners have cut prices on mid-size rough, raised them on large goods and planned output pauses — a split now reaching polished prices.

Producers are clearing mid-size rough at lower prices while holding firm on the largest goods.
- A leading producer's average realised rough price for the first half was about a third lower than a year earlier, and its rough price index fell 16%.
- Early in the year it cut prices on 1 to 4 ct rough and raised them on stones of 5 ct and above.
- A production pause is planned at one of its major mines for the second half.
Cheaper mid-size rough has fed through to softer prices for 1 to 2 ct natural polished over the past year, while reduced output ahead supports the larger goods. Buyers of large natural stones should not expect the discounts available lower down. We source natural stones individually — tell us the specification.
