Natural polished prices are rising again, and the recovery is starting at the small end.
- Trade asking prices for better-quality round brilliants rose about 2% at 0.30 ct and about 2.5% at 0.50 ct in August, following gains in July.
- At 1 ct, prices edged up for the first time in more than a year, ending a long run of monthly declines.
- At 3 ct, prices were broadly flat, slipping slightly in August.
- Rounds firmed faster than fancy shapes.
Reduced output from miners and cutters is doing most of the work, rather than a surge in demand. The soft pricing of the past year in natural rounds of a carat and under is narrowing; larger natural stones still leave room to negotiate.
