Laser inscription requests are rising

More buyers are asking for the grading report number to be laser-inscribed on the stone's girdle, linking a specific stone to its paperwork in a way that can't be swapped out.

• Inscription is a microscopic engraving on the girdle, invisible without magnification, that carries the report number and sometimes a short personal message.
• Interest has risen alongside the broader push toward stronger documentation we noted with provenance paperwork — an inscription is a physical version of the same idea, harder to separate from the stone than a certificate can be.
• Buyers who plan to insure, resell or pass down a stone are the most likely to ask for it, since it removes any doubt about which certificate belongs to which stone.
